Dr Iman Azimi obtained his PhD in 2011 from the Lowy Cancer Research Centre at the University of New South Wales. He then joined The University of Queensland as a postdoctoral fellow in cancer research, where he worked for approximately six and a half years on projects spanning both basic science and industry-focused applications.
In 2018, Dr Azimi established his independent research group at the University of Tasmania, focusing on identifying novel therapeutic targets in brain cancers and cellular ageing, with particular emphasis on calcium signalling and metabolic pathways.
In 2023, he relocated his group to Monash University, where he is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology. His current research streams include drug discovery for medulloblastoma in collaboration with clinicians, identifying targets to control cellular senescence, and developing strategies to target therapy-induced senescence in cancer.
