Dhrita Khatri is a pharmacist and researcher with extensive experience in paediatric pharmacy, with a strong focus on applying pharmacogenomics (PGx) to enhance clinical practices and improve medication safety in children. With 18 years of experience as a pharmacist, she has a broad range of experience from clinical to management roles.
She joined the Murdoch Children's Research Institute in early 2023 as part of the Cancer Therapies Group, where she is focused on leveraging PGx for better patient care. Through collaborations with institutions like the Royal Children's Hospital, University of Melbourne and the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium, her research is strongly translational.
Dhrita's research projects are centred around pharmacogenomics. Her previous work includes investigating the effects of PGx screening for gene-drug interactions and providing therapeutic recommendations for actionable variants in the paediatric cancer cohort. She also led a project on genotype-informed Bayesian dosing of tacrolimus in solid organ transplant patients.
Her new research project involves the design and implementation of a multi-faceted immersive education program to increase the health workforce's capability in using pharmacogenomics in practice, with a specific focus in the cancer paediatric setting. This initiative aims to be a scalable and sustainable educational intervention, with the ultimate goal of enhancing medication safety and efficacy through targeted PGx education.
