Elena Fernandez is the Coordinator for the Children’s Cancer Centre Biobank at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and has been a key member of the team since 2017. After completing her science degree at Deakin University, she has worked in many teams within the Institute to develop extensive expertise in biospecimen handling, quality control, and database management.

In her current role, Elena plays a central part in ensuring the availability of high-quality, fit-for-purpose biospecimens to support translational research, clinical trials, and diagnostic applications. She works closely with both clinical and research teams across the hospital precinct, establishing strong collaborative relationships to facilitate the ethical collection and processing of valuable samples.

Elena has assisted in streamlining biobank operations and is committed to continuous improvement to expand the accessibility and impact of this essential research-enabling resource.
