Candice Forward's son, River, was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at age 2 and received a lifesaving bone marrow transplant from his older brother. Now in remission, River continues to inspire Candice’s commitment to improving the systems that support children and families affected by cancer.

Candice brings her lived experience as a parent and full-time carer to the Patient and Family Advisory Committee, where she contributes a strong focus on compassion, dignity, and equity in care. Through her involvement in the VCCC Alliance Lived Experience Leadership Program and her ongoing awareness work through the Team River community, Candice is helping ensure family voices are centred in childhood cancer research, advocacy, and service design.
