Professor Tracey O’Brien AM is NSW Chief Cancer Officer and CEO of the Cancer Institute NSW. A highly respected executive leader and clinician-researcher, she excels in bridging clinical, research, government, and policy spheres at the highest level. Prof O’Brien serves on the Commonwealth Cancer and Population Screening Committee and the National Expert Advisory Group for the Australian Cancer Plan. Previously, Prof O’Brien was Director of the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital. She has also held key leadership roles, including Executive Director of Kids Cancer Centre, Sydney Children’s Hospital; Non-Executive Director of Children’s Cancer Research Institute; Advisory Chair of Cancer Australia; Vice Advisory Chair of International Centre for Bone Marrow Transplant Research (Australasia, Africa and Asia), Vice President ANZ Children’s Oncology Group.

Named one of Australia’s Top 10Women of Influence (AFR, 2019), Prof O’Brien was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2024. In addition to her medical qualifications, she holds a Master of Law (Health) and an MBA. A professor at UNSW, Western Sydney University, and Macquarie University, Prof O’Brien remains dedicated to mentoring future cancer leaders and advancing research-led care.
