Survivorship and Living Well Roundtable - Closed

Children's Cancer CoLab is working towards an ambitious goal: to create a framework and action plan that holistically supports childhood cancer survivors. This means addressing not just their physical health, but also their psychological, educational, social and financial needs.

Our first Survivorship and Living Well Roundtable was held on 21 May 2025 to gather real-world perspectives on this issue. The event was attended by 28 childhood cancer survivors, families, advocates, researchers and clinicians.

Our next step is to collate and share the Roundtable’s outcomes. We’ll also continue to have discussions that focus on clinicians, researchers, and policy perspectives and form a working group with a range of stakeholders to prepare a position statement on survivorship and living well beyond cancer.

Why we held the roundtable

This first roundtable event is part of a collaborative effort to tackle the complex challenges of childhood cancer survivorship. By bringing together patients, families, researchers, clinicians and charities, we will focus on lived experiences to identify gaps in care and opportunities for improvement. Together, we aim to set new standards for childhood cancer survivorship care - both nationally and internationally.

How real-world perspectives will guide our work

The discussions helped to pinpoint critical gaps, particularly at high-risk junctures where childhood cancer survivors and their families may become "lost" in the system. In addition, whilst the majority of survivorship efforts tend to focus on health outcomes, we acknowledge the importance of non-health outcomes for childhood cancer survivors, and a key priority is to gain a holistic overview of the unmet needs that are not just health outcome focused.

A patient-centered working group will use the insights to guide the development of a framework and action plan, informing Children Cancer CoLab's funding into targeted interventions.

Who attended this event

Our first roundtable was attended primarily by childhood cancer survivors and their families and carers. Researchers, clinicians, and aligned charities also joined the discussion to ensure broad perspectives. Future roundtables will include a broader audience to gain diverse perspectives.
